Nov 17, 2016  HD 4870.pic attached.is this compatible have seen one thread about flashing these same named but different looking cards.but doing it on the Mac. Since I the Mac is a home machine.and the GF uses it I don't want to risk doing anything wrong on.

Seems like it should be, but Apple bizarrely listed it as only compatible with the 2010 update, while the 5870 is listed as compatible with both.
Looking a the specs, I can't see any reason why it wouldn't work without a hitch. Hell, it looks like it should be compatible with any MP sporting EFI64, and 10.6.4+ for drivers, at the very least.
I've got almost $100 in Best Buy store credit and gift cards, and I'm seriously tempted to grab one of these from there as soon as they start selling them (I assume they will at least sell the Mac editions online, but the site is down for maintenance right now and I can't check.) I'd flash a 4870, but if I can get a officially supported one for about the same price (after store credit/gift cards) I'd be inclined to jump on that.
