I know that re-reading that statement can lead you to believe they are talking about running AnyConnect within a Guest OS in VMWare but I got clarification from the developers that they mean AnyConnect is not supported on the Host Operating System when a Virtualization Technology is installed as well.
I opened a Cisco TAC Case and they have a Product Enhancement Request Bug CSCsm17393 to 'resolve this'. My question is: is VMWare aware of this issue (it effects the IPSEC VPN Client as well) and are they working with Cisco on ways to resolve this problem at least with VMWare? This is a huge deal and while I respect that Cisco and VMWare can respectively point the finger at each other on who is at fault I would appreciate knowing that the two companies who work very closely with each other on Cisco UCS and ESX and other products that they could work together to make this work. VMWare are you hearing me?
