Sims 2 For Mac

Aspyr Media and EA put out a joint press release yesterday announcing Aspyr's conversion of The Sims 2 to Macintosh. Information on the game is available via Aspyr's site, and will soon be available for preorder. No information yet on when the game will be available on the Mac platform. You may like to read.

This is an entry for the original 'The Sims 2' game from Maxis. For those who somehow don't know, The Sims lets you simulate humans. You can customize their personalities, clothing, their houses, and even their jobs. It basically simulates life in a slightly unrealistic fashion.

Currently, the only thing we are hosting are updaters.

Download 2 - The Sims 2 Combo Patch (December 14, 2007)
Includes The Sims 2 Rev F, The Sims 2 University Rev A, The Sims 2 Nightlife Rev A, The Sims 2 Pets Rev A and also :

The Sims 2 Pets Rev B

• Fixes an install issue with later expansions and or object packs in the Sims 2 series
• Body Shop and Package Installer are now universal Binaries
• Fixes several animations: aquarium fish, neighborhood effects such as pigeons, geese, seagulls, red biplane

• Custom objects will now be preserved when uploading Lots to the Exchange
• Z-fighting in snow on rooftops in neighborhood view
• Z-fighting on round pool corners and holes/dirt piles dug by dogs

If you download and install this update, then there is no need to download the following updates.

Download 3 - The Sims 2 Combo Patch (November 14, 2007)
Includes more or less the same changes as the December combo patch. However, this patch is flawed and will break your Sims 2 install on OS X Tiger. Please do not install this patch, and use December 14, 2007 combo patch instead. This patch is only kept here for archiving purposes.

If you did not want to download Combo Patch (if you want to have an older version of The Sims 2), you need to apply the following patches :

• Stability and performance improvements

Download 5 - Update to The Sims 2 - Nightlife 1.2 Rev. A (June 2, 2006)

• Adds native Intel support
• Fixes a random crash after a baby is born

Download 6 - Update for The Sims 2 - Pets 1.6 Rev. A (April 15, 2007)

• The 1.6.1 patch fixes install issue with later expansions and or
  object packs in the Sims 2 series.
• The patch also fixes a setting where changes to your Sims lot or neighborhood name would not be saved and therefore would not show up upon next launch.
• Fixes color problems with several pieces of furniture.
• Improves performance by adding multi-threaded Open GL support.
• Fixes an issue where user settings would reset to default upon launching game.

Download 7 - Update for The Sims 2 - University 1.1 Rev. A (June 2, 2006)

• Adds native Intel support
• Fixes terrain camera tracking.
• Fixes a random crash after a baby is born

If you applied the previous patches (but not any of the Combo Patches) AND if you are on 10.4 and using QuickTime 7.6, then you need to apply one (and only ONE) of the following patches. The patch you have to apply depends on what expansion packs you do have installed :

Download 8 - The Sims 2 Rev F - QuickTime 7.6 fix
Apply this patch if you :only possess the base game (no expansion pack !).

Download 9 - The Sims 2 Bon Voyage - QuickTime 7.6 fix
Apply this patch if you have : Bon Voyage installed.

Download 10 - The Sims 2 Seasons - QuickTime 7.6 fix
Apply this patch if you have : Seasons installed but not Bon Voyage.

Download 11 - The Sims 2 Pets - QuickTime 7.6 fix
Apply this patch if you have : Pets installed but not Bon Voyage, Seasons.

Download 12 - The Sims 2 Open for Business - QuickTime 7.6 fix
Apply this patch if you have : Open for Business installed but not Pets, Bon Voyage, Seasons.

Download 13 - The Sims 2 Nightlife - QuickTime 7.6 fix
Apply this patch if you have : Nightlife installed but not Open for Business, Pets, Bon Voyage, Seasons.

Apply this patch if you have : University installed but not Nightlife, Open for Business, Pets, Bon Voyage, Seasons.

→ If you want to play The Sims 2 on your modern Mac, it's available on the Mac App Store (follow the 'purchase' link). Currently it is 32-bit only but it will be 64-bit in the near future.

Original release comes with PowerPC code only,
later releases (or expansion packs) contain Universal Binary applications).
